Types of Paragraphs in Step-by-Step Guide

1. Introduction Paragraph - the first paragraph
2. Body Paragraphs - one or more middle paragraphs
3. Conclusion Paragraph - the last paragraph

 

Types of Sentences

1. Topic Sentence - states the conclusion that the evidence in the rest of the paragraph will support
2. Support Sentence - contains supporting evidence for the statement made in the topic sentence
3. Position Statement - takes a clear position on an issue
4. Thesis Statement - develops the position statement by summing up how the position was reached
5. Concluding Statement - restates the thesis in new language

 

Anatomy of a Comment

1. Comment Text - states the comment for the above sentence or paragraph
2. Quotations - states the quotations found in a sentence
3. Big Names - states the eye-catching capitalized words in a sentence
